Planned Breech C-Section - Positive Birth Story

Whilst a C-Section wasn’t the initial plan, after finding out that her baby girl was breech, Megan decided to have a C-Section birth. She shares her birth story with us, from the nerve racking moments to the most magical feeling!

On the 29th December I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Lola via a planned C-Section.

During pregnancy I had a few complications so there was always talk of a C-Section but it was never a definite. I did a lot of online research and came across the c-sectionuk Instagram but sadly only the week before I was due. At my 36 week scan, I was told that my baby girl was breech. They gave me the option of trying to turn her but I didn’t want that, so a planned C-Section was booked for exactly 39 weeks.

On the day I felt so calm. We got to the hospital nice and early and I was told I was third in the waiting list. We went down around 11:30am and it was going so well, my nerves had settled and I just felt so ready to meet our baby girl.

The bit I was most scared for was actually the spinal block, and I can’t lie as this is an honest story - for me it was quite painful. The first time it didn’t work so they had to do it again a second time, so it was just a little sore!

But then the best part.. laying there so still and sooo excited ready to meet our baby! The staff were so lovely and informative of what they were doing and gave us a 10 second countdown so my husband could take a photo.

We had been told we could make a playlist for the operation which we did and at the exact moment she was born, The Lion King was playing, which we could never have timed so perfectly! The lady couldn’t believe it - she said it’s always called the “Lion King Moment” but she’d never heard it play at that exact moment!

The next bit was a little scary as Lola didn’t cry. I’d read up a lot about this happening but I was quite naive and didn’t think it would happen to me. She got rushed straight to the oxygen. My husband was with her the whole time but this was by far the worst part for me, lying helplessly not knowing if she was okay.

25 minutes passed and we were reunited and from then on we were never apart again. I was wheeled back to my ward where we spent the next few hours cuddling and feeding. It was truly the most magical few hours of my life.

Overall my C-Section experience, even with a few scary moments, was incredible and I will definitely choose to have one again next time, even if the next baby isn’t breech. It was so calm throughout and my recovery is going very well too.

I wish I had found this page sooner, but it’s nice following it now and reading all the positive stories!
